Mickey Mantle Signed Memorabilia The Ultimate Gift

Mickey Mantle Signed Memorabilia Will Increase in Value

Mickey Charles Mantle was born on October 20, 1931, he was given the nicknames The Commerce Comet and The Mick. Mantle played his entire Major League Baseball career from 1951–1968 with the New York Yankees as a center fielder, right fielder, and first baseman. Mantle was one of the best players and sluggers and is regarded by many as the greatest switch hitter in baseball history. Mantle was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 and was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999.

Mantle was one of the greatest offensive threats of any center fielder in baseball history. He has the highest career On Base Plus Slugging of any center fielder, and he had the highest stolen base percentage in history at the time of his retirement. In addition, compared to the other four center fielders on the All-Century team, he had the lowest career rate of grounding into double plays, and he had the highest World Series on base percentage and World Series slugging percentage. He also had an excellent 0.984 fielding percentage when playing center field. Mantle was noted for his ability to hit for both average and power, especially tape measure home runs. He hit 536 MLB career home runs, batting average of .300 or more ten times, and is the career leader only matched with Jim Thome in walk-off home runs, with thirteen—twelve in the regular season and one in the postseason.Mickey Mantle Signed Memorabilia Is A Great Investment

Mantle won the Triple Crown in 1956, when he led the Major Leagues in batting average, home runs, and runs batted in. He later wrote a book called My Favorite Summer 1956 about his best year in baseball. He was an All-Star for 16 seasons, playing in 16 of the 20 All-Star Games that were played during his career. He was an American League Most Valuable Player three times and a Gold Glove winner once. Mantle appeared in 12 World Series including seven championships, and he holds World Series records for the most home runs at 18, RBIs at 40, extra-base hits at 26, runs at 42, walks at 43, and total bases an impressive 123.

Mantle hit some of the longest home runs in Major League history. On September 10, 1960, he hit a ball left-handed that cleared the right-field roof at Tiger Stadium in Detroit and, based on where it was found, was estimated years later by historian Mark Gallagher to have traveled 643 feet. Another Mantle homer, hit right-handed off Chuck Stobbs at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. on April 17, 1953, was measured by Yankees traveling secretary Red Patterson to have traveled 565 feet.

Mantle on two occasions hit balls off the third-deck facade at Yankee Stadium, nearly becoming the only player to hit a fair ball out of the stadium during a game. On May 22, 1963, against Kansas City’s Bill Fischer, Mantle hit a ball that fellow players and fans claimed was still rising when it hit the 110-foot high facade, then caromed back onto the playing field. On August 12, 1964, he hit one where the distance was undoubted, a center field drive that cleared the 22-foot batter’s eye screen, some 75 beyond the 461-foot marker at the Stadium. The Daily News reported it as a 502-foot homer.

Although he was a feared power hitter from either side of the plate and hit more home runs batting left-handed than right, Mantle considered himself a better right-handed hitter. Surprisingly, Mantle was also one of the best bunters for base hits of all time. He is in 10th place in number of bases-empty bunt singles for his career, with 80 in only 148 at-bats. There are no other power hitters in the top ten. Mickey Mantles amazing achievements and popularity in the baseball world has seen the demand for his signature rise over the years. There is no doubt that the value of Mickey Mantle’s signed memorabilia will increase and would make a great investment.

    • Hi Benjamin unfortunately your probably right the younger generation wouldn’t enjoy Mickey Mantle signed memorabilia as much as the older generation but I think if they knew the value of investing in memorabilia they may appreciate it enough to hold onto it and make some money.

  3. Mickey Mantel was one of the best! I wish I could have watched him live playing. I’ve acquired a nice collection of signed memorabilia so far, but I don’t have a Mickey Mantle item as of yet. I don’t think I would sell it though if I did get one, I understand there’s lots of money to be made on these but as a sports fan I like having these shown around my house. Thank you for the history of Mantle, I find that fascinating. He was so great in his time.

    • Hi Travis there is absolutely nothing wrong with collecting memorabilia and not using it to invest in and the best thing is you can pass your collection onto to someone special. Something signed by Mickey Mantle would definitely look good in your collection.

  4. i found your post resourceful. i read futher and discovered that Mantle began playing baseball as a Little League shortstop and at Commerce Oklahoma High School. it was recorded that he sustained a football injury sustained in 1946 led to osteomyelitis, a bone-tissue infection, which required five operations before the disease was controlled. did you know this?

  5. thank you a lot for your post it is really inspiring. i think the country owes thanks to Mantle for his candor in past times. he
should be remembered for his extraordinary talent. Few have ever played baseball as well as Mantle at his best. some sport channels should perhaps create some documentary on legends like this

    • Hi Benjamin thanks for the comment and I think that’s a great idea sports channels should show more tributes to legend sports heroes like Mickey Mantle, Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali. They contributed a lot to the world of sport and future generations need to know more about them.

I do not know if any major league player now has reached his achievement. I will get his memorabilia though because it is good investment.
