Doors Memorabilia is the Ultimate Gift

People are always looking for the Ultimate Gift for a friend or family member. What else would make a better gift than something signed by a Sport or Movie star or their favourite Musician or Band. Imagine seeing the look on their face when they unwrap their gift and are blown away by what they now have just received.

Signed Memorabilia is the ultimate gift. It means something, it’s special, it comes with a certificate of authenticity and most importantly it will increase in value. Most gifts whether for Birthday, Christmas or just because you love and respect the person don’t increase in value as time goes on but Signed Memorabilia does. Take for instance the sad and untimely death of basketballer Kobe Bryant the demand for his memorabilia skyrocketed as well as the prices the day after his death.

Same as when Michael Jackson Passed away his signed memorabilia increased by thirty percent minutes after details of his death were announced. My Father is a huge Beach Boys fan and I recently bought him a framed picture signed by Mike Love and Brian Wilson, he was so happy when he opened it he immediately put it up on his wall in the living room and I get to see it every time I visit and remember the joy it gave him.

I also know the remaining members of The Beach Boys days are sadly numbered and I will definitely telling my father to get the items valued. Your Love One or friend will be so surprised and happy with this amazing gift and will show it off in their home for many years to come.

If signed memorabilia is out of your price range you can also find awesome memorabilia on eBay and Amazon that will also make a perfect gift for any Doors fan.

The Doors

Jim Morrison was born in Melbourne, Florida on December the 8th, 1943 he was the son of an Admiral and was moved from base to base as a child.

In 1947, when he was four years old, Morrison allegedly witnessed a car accident in the desert, during which a truck overturned and some Native Americans were lying injured at the side of the road. The story goes that a spirit of one of the dead leapt into Jim’s soul.

Jim loved to read especially poetry and philosophy, he would devour books one after the other from writers like William Blake, Friedrich Nietzshe and Arthur Rimbaud. Jim’s mother Clara would give him money to get clothes and he would go to the Salvation Army by a cheap shirt and spend the rest on books.

Jim decides to go to UCLA to study Film after he was living with his Grandparents because his Mother couldn’t stand his outlandish and somewhat cruel behavior. This is where he took an interest in Shamanism and writing poetry. After having no money and living on the rooftop of a building inhabited by his old UCLA cinematography friend, Dennis Jacobs, he wrote the lyrics of many of the early songs the Doors would later perform live and record on albums.

Jim’s encounter with Ray Manzarek who was also a film student at UCLA on the beach in Venice would be the most important meeting in the Door’s career. After some small talk Jim tells Ray about songs he’s been writing and uncomfortably sings Moonlight drive to Ray. Amazed by the lyrics, Manzarek said “Let’s start a rock n’ roll band and make a million dollars.” Ray was already in a band called Rick and the Ravens as keyboardist and lead singer, Jim had actually got up on stage with them in a little cafe and sang Louie Louie although he apparently screamed it more than sang.

Not long after drummer John Densmore joins the band and introduces Jim and Ray to Robby Krieger an amazing guitarist that John and worked with before. Now we have The Doors. This section tells how the band found their way to playing at the Whiskey a go go on the sunset strip after playing at a very small and dingy bar called the London Fog. It was also around this time when Jim would meet the love of his life, the one he called his ‘cosmic mate’ Pamela Courson. LSD had long been the drug of choice in the 60’s and for Jim well he loved it. One night at the Whiskey and Jim is heavily on Acid he performs the lyrics to a song called ‘The End’. Jim failed to tell the others in the band that he had new lyrics to the song and because they were quite shocking stating he wanted to kill his father and f___ his mother they were promptly fired from the Whiskey and rehired a few days later.

Two years would pass before they would get a contract with Elektra records, Jac Holzman, who operated Elektra Records, signed up The Doors and by early 1967, the band’s first album was released and Morrison and the guys became major stars after having a number one hit with ‘Light my Fire’. After touring the U.S. and Europe, The doors were well on their way to becoming the biggest band in America.

Fame has turned Jim into Jimbo, a hard drinking out of control alter ego that would make life miserable for all those around the singer. LSD was no longer Jim’s substance of choice and now Alcohol was going to eventually destroy everything he and his band mates had worked so hard to achieve. Morrison became a raging Alcoholic who was completely out of control. By 1969 The out of control singer had grown a beard and gained weight, no longer was he the sex symbol of America and that was exactly what Jim set out to destroy.

The infamous Miami concert that took place at Dinner Key Auditorium, Morrison turned up blind drunk and attempted to spark a riot in the audience, in part by screaming “You wanna see my cock?” as well as other obscenities and telling the crowd to get naked which many of the audience did. Three days later he was arrested by the Dade county police department for indecent exposure, among other things. Consequently, many of the Doors’ scheduled concerts were canceled. Morrison was convicted of indecent exposure and profanity by a six-person jury in Miami after a trial that lasted 16 days. Morrison, silently listened as he was sentenced to six months in prison and had to pay a $500 fine. Morrison remained free on a $50,000 bond.

Jim left America and went to Paris to be with Pam. He died 8 months later in Paris in a bathtub and was buried in Père Lachaise cemetery. The official cause of death was listed as heart failure but there was no Autopsy and Pamela is apparently the only person to actually see the body. This caused skepticism about his death.

Memorabilia Comes in all Shapes and Sizes

Memorabilia is all about the Nostalgia and theres so much different types of Memorabilia that you can find. When it comes to AC/DC Memorabilia theres no shortage of choice. On eBay alone you can find everything from vintage concert posters to Tour Jackets and T shirts and even limited edition professionally taken photos.

On Amazon you can find Custom Framed Gold Plated LPs, Wall Clocks and of course Promo Posters, Concert Memorabilia and much much more. All these items are great and will make the perfect gift. They look good displayed in the home or on the wall and will put a smile on anyones face, but they will very rarely increase in value and they don’t have that personal touch that Signed Memorabilia has.

Unfortunately Signed Memorabilia can be pricey and is more suited as an investment than a gift. In saying that though if you can get a group to chip in, signed memorabilia would make the ultimate gift that someone could cherish for many years to come. Keeping in mind though you need to do your research before hand and buy from a reputable dealer. For this I recommend

My ConclusionMarc Constantine Affiliate Blogger

Doors Memorabilia is a great gift for any fan, Signed Memorabilia by Doors would be even better as the value will go up over time making it a great investment as well. Unfortunately Signed Memorabilia can be quite expensive, I think it’s worth having a look and see if there is anything in your price range(but please remember to follow my rules before purchasing).

Alternatively Amazon and eBay have some great memorabilia on their sites that will still put a smile on any Doors fans face and will still make a great gift. 1. This is my first time reading about the history of Jim Morrison and I am really surprised at what I had seen here about him. Sadly his death is something I would love to read more about and from this is a sad take knowing there was no autopsy to the cause of his death.  A memorabilia that is true or legit about him should be well available. Thanks for sharing this amazing post.

    • Hi Benson yes there was a lot of skepticism about Jim Morrison’s death. Just like Elvis there had been reported sightings after the announcement of his death. I guess this will be something we will never know the truth about.

  2. I think this is a interesting post I’ve always liked to collect various types of memorabilia and have found that over the years could be a great investment because your investment  will just increase over time it will become worth more that’s one thing that I’ll say memorabilia investments are a lot less risky and a lot more likely to increase in value over time but this was a very nice informative article learned something new today keep up the good work -Jonathon

    • Hi Jonathon thanks for the positive comment, as long as you do your research and buy from credible dealer signed memorabilia is a great investment.

  3. I really love the Doors Memorabilia and the detailed Article on the Band and how Jim Morrison allegedly came to poetry and music.I’m sure I’ll find some nice gifts here for my uncle who is huge Doors Fan. I personally love the Movie Memorabilia and might get something for my self while I’m at it! Thank you so much for these great inspirations!

    • Hi thanks for the comment I’m sure you will find something for you and your Uncle and you can always take advantage of the free shipping.

  4. I was starting to read your article and for a second I thought you were going to describe a book of a serial killer, especially after that part where he witnessed a fatal accident. What a ride that was. I have heard this mans name so many times but I never actually searched to see who he was or what he’s done. I thought he had a good legacy for all the mentions he’s had over the years. Sadly, that part of changing the lyrics and saying he wanted to do those things is really disturbing.

    • Hi Stephanie Jim Morrison was a very unique and complex character if you do get the chance make sure you check out some of his material because his lyrics and poetry is amazing.

  5. Its nice seeing your post about another interesting person and Jim happens to have one of my hobbies which us reading and my love for it keeps increasing over time because my knowledge keeps expanding. I have bought quite a lot of memorabilia and i haven’t come across that of Jim Morrison. Although i have bought quite a lot of memorabilia and some ate not good quality. I’ll love to get the one of Jim.

    • Hi Bella thanks for the comment. Jim Morrison signed memorabilia is quite rare but if you are lucky enough to get your hands on an item it can only go up in value.

  6. Hi, I am a big fan of the doors  and I am learning to play some of their songs on guitar. I think they had an awesome and unique style to their music. To be honest I am guessing they must have been very high while making it because it is very creative and awesome. That’s rock and roll though. Just like led zeppelin.

in regards to having investments of signed  memorabilia, I think that it depends on who the the person signing it to determine ththe value. For example, elvis Presley signature would be worth lots of money.

    • Hi Jake thanks for the comment, you are correct Elvis Presley’s signature is a lot more because his is rare but if you get the right persons signed memorabilia while they are alive when they do pass on that signed memorabilia will increase in value and you may find that at the time of their passing when they are all over the media is when the price will skyrocket.
